Merciful | Status Update
I’m not a sociologist, psychologist, or political scientist, but I don’t think you necessarily have to be one to observe the antagonistic climate brewing in our country these days. It’s very disconcerting. But it’s also an opportunity for the Church of Jesus Christ to show up and show out for who we really are. That will be the thrust of our discussion as we endeavor to “perfect mercy.”

With the rise of social media in our times, there’s also been a rise in a new brand of negative criticism: shaming. There’s fat-shaming, skinny-shaming, fit-shaming, age-shaming, mom-shaming, and now even job-shaming. People are ridiculing others simply for the type of work they do. We’re going to see a much different perspective from God’s Word — that our work is part of our worship, no matter what we do. I look forward to encouraging you with His truth.
Living as Exiles | For the Life of the World
Have you traveled overseas? Have you spent much time in a culture that is very different than ours (language, religion, customs, etc.)? It’s a strange experience. Matter of fact, that’s what they call you, a “stranger.” Well, in His Word, God takes this physical reality and uses it to teach us spiritual truth — that we are “strangers” in this world. Do you like to garden? The truth is that my thumb is probably more brown than it is green. But I still like to work out in the yard. Like a skilled gardener, God works in and through our lives to make us fruitful. And it’s in the context of that relationship we will learn our final lesson about prayer.

I love being a dad. Even through all of the disappointments and heartaches (and expenses!) that comes with it, I still love it. I think God does, too. And understanding the “Fatherliness” of God is a tremendous key to unlocking a rich prayer life.

But to be fair, that is also the typical response I hear when I ask that same question to others. So, beloved, we need to go to the school of prayer; and who better to teach us than Jesus Himself.
