People of my generation and older remember that significant moment in world history when the Berlin Wall fell. It symbolized the end of tyranny and oppression by communist regimes and their totalitarian ideologies…or so we thought. Over the past few decades, there are several indications that our own great nation has moved more in that direction. So, what is the threat and how do we respond as followers of Jesus?
Transgender. Transsexual. Gender identity. Gender dysphoria. This terminology is becoming more common and popularized in today’s culture. As Christians, learning how to process and respond about these issues from a Biblical perspective matters. We will seek to understand what transgenderism is, how the Bible speaks to it, and what our response as followers of Jesus should be.
If you watch the news at all, then you’ve certainly heard about Critical Race Theory. It’s definitely a “hot topic” in our culture right now. And, unfortunately, it seems to be causing even further division (even in the Church). So, what is “CRT”? What’s good about it? And, what’s not good about it? What does the Bible have to say about it?
With temperatures getting into the 100s this week for the first time this summer, it seems fitting to begin our Hot Summer Topics teaching series. Our aim in this series is to address hotly discussed issues in our culture and to train us how to think about them Biblically. Why is this important? So that we might engage in respectful and loving dialogue in order to promote God’s truth in our lives and circles of influence. We kick off the series this Sunday with the topic of mental health.
