Over the past several weeks, we have seen from God’s Word how the Church of Jesus Christ is His gift to the world — that we are blessed to be a blessing. Today we have the unique privilege of hearing from the creator, author and lead figure in the For the Life of the World series, Evan Koons, as he and I will share in a round table discussion about “So What? Now What?”
Many objects in the heavens and the earth are invisible to the human eye without the aid of a telescope or microscope. They help us “see the invisible.” As we wrap up our For the Life of the World series, we will be “seeing the invisible” through eyes of faith.
With Google, Alexa, Facebook and Netflix the waiting we once had to experience is nearly gone. No longer do we have to visit a library, just search Google or ask Alexa. No longer do we have to wait to see our friend face to face to find out what’s happening in their life, just scroll through Facebook. And no longer do we have to wait a week to learn what’s going to happen next on our favorite television show, just binge Netflix. However, in this new era of no longer having to wait are we losing our sense of wonder?
This past summer I went hiking up in Maine and was reminded of the amazing beauty, complexity and order in God’s creation. The scripture says that God created this world in His wisdom; and His wisdom is still calling out to us today. We’ll answer that call as we look together at Proverbs 8.
Have you ever thought about the number of disorders in our modern culture? There are sleeping, eating, learning, & mental disorders of all kinds. (I’ve battled the sleep one myself.)
Well, into this world filled with disorder, God is calling the Church to maintain peace — His peace.
With the rise of social media in our times, there’s also been a rise in a new brand of negative criticism: shaming. There’s fat-shaming, skinny-shaming, fit-shaming, age-shaming, mom-shaming, and now even job-shaming. People are ridiculing others simply for the type of work they do. We’re going to see a much different perspective from God’s Word — that our work is part of our worship, no matter what we do. I look forward to encouraging you with His truth.
Many of us treat our salvation in Jesus like my wife and I treat the church pew that’s in our garage. Recently someone gave us the church pew, and we have plans to use it in the future on our outdoor patio or in our living room. But as for today it’s not being used; it’s just sitting in the garage. Do you think of your salvation as something you will use later, something that has eternal significance but not really everyday significance?
Have you traveled overseas? Have you spent much time in a culture that is very different than ours (language, religion, customs, etc.)? It’s a strange experience. Matter of fact, that’s what they call you, a “stranger.” Well, in His Word, God takes this physical reality and uses it to teach us spiritual truth — that we are “strangers” in this world. I’m stoked to share this message with you as we kick off our new series, For the Life of the World.
