We will finish our sermon series over benedictions found in the Bible by looking at a final benediction that refers to one of the “secret things” that “belong to the LORD our God.” I can’t wait to share it with you!
Do you remember that feeling of having the right equipment for the job – that perfect tool, instrument or device that makes your task so much more fruitful and fulfilling? Our passage this week teaches us that God “equips us in every good thing to do His will.” He delights in enabling us to do our tasks – His tasks – so that our lives can be more fruitful and fulfilled.
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15: 13) When I read this verse, I get excited like a kid standing in the middle of a candy store. This one verse is filled with blessing upon blessing for those who trust in Jesus. We will unpack this hope-filled scripture because, if you are like me, you need hope more than anything else.
I recently filled out a survey. The answers ranged from “worthwhile“ to “insignificant“. This got me thinking, if you were honest — and I mean gut-level honest — how would you rank God’s opinion of you? Worthwhile? Average? Insignificant? Our understanding of how God views us is more than important. So join us as we unpack one of scripture’s most amazing blessings. And just a hint… it’s worthwhile!
Back in 1979, an archaeologist named Dr. Gabriel Barkay was doing a dig just outside of Jerusalem when he discovered two silver strips (called amulets) which were rolled up like scrolls. It turns out that those amulets now contain the oldest surviving biblically-related inscription ever discovered (to date). So, maybe this particular text has long been supremely treasured by God’s people.
