Mustard Seed Network
The mission of Mustard Seed Network is to glorify God by making disciples through planting gospel-centered churches in Japan. With less than 1% of Japan’s population identifying as Christian, Japan remains one of the world’s largest unreached people groups.
One of those strategic locations is Saitama, home to 1.26 million people and a major city within the Tokyo metropolitan area, with its southern border just three miles from Tokyo proper. The Mustard Seed – Saitama church is located just a six-minute walk from Omiya Station, one of the busiest train stations in the world. This strategic location provides an incredible opportunity to reach people not only in Saitama, but throughout the greater Tokyo area.
This vision for reaching Japan began in 2007, when a team of church planters, compelled by Christ’s commission and the great need for the gospel in Japan, moved to the country with a vision to make disciples by planting churches in urban Japan. The first church was planted in December 2009 in Nagoya. Through gospel proclamation, relentless evangelism, biblical teaching, and authentic community, disciples were made and the kingdom of God began to grow. Churches continued to be planted, and today, in 2026, 12 Mustard Seed Network churches gather weekly across Japan.
Today, the prayer and vision of Mustard Seed Network is not simply for growth, but for awakening in Japan—a movement of God that forms healthy, multiplying churches, raises up faithful leaders, revitalizes struggling congregations, and proclaims the gospel to the 99% who do not yet know Jesus.
