Sunday evening, July 27

Right before many of them scatter for the fall, this group of young adults gathered for dinner, prayer, and a little encouragement.
Pastor Eric shared how his faith became his own during college—and reminded them that their faith matters right now. Not just later. Not just “once they figure it all out.” But here, in this season.
Before the evening ended, they grabbed Sharpies and wrote Scriptures onto the foundation of the Worship Center.
Verses that have shaped them.
Words they hope others will stand on, too.
No spotlight. No stage. Just truth, poured straight into the concrete.
Now this is what I like to see—
the younger generation using their phones… to look up Scripture. ???? ????
(Also: if you say “younger generation,” you’re officially old. ????)

I just love this. ????

Don’t you love how our Senior Pastor has a heart for challenging students and young adults to follow Jesus wholeheartedly?
“Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”
—1 Timothy 4:12
(Also, as I work on these construction updates, I’ve been trying to take better photos. But this one? This one is next level. It’s like you’re right there with them!)

“So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
—Isaiah 55:11
Lord, let none of these words return empty.
But may they reflect the heart of our church (the people, not the building).

The man with the plan.
Literally.

Someone looked out this window and said, “It’s like a giant billboard!”
Then someone else suggested putting a huge picture of Pastor Eric on it.
He would NOT go for that. ????
Tuesday, July 29
(the day I got to walk around with Max and get lots of inside info!)

Just a building taking its excavator for a walk.

I need this guy to come help at my house.
He fixed up this whole area in minutes.
Meanwhile, I’ve had a basket of unfolded laundry sitting on my couch since last week.

I missed the part where they GRABBED THE ENTIRE BUILDING and SHOOK IT to straighten it.
Still not over it.
All I got was this measly yellow strap, strangely able to hold things in place until the bolts show up.

As a consolation, Max (the guy who’s actually in charge) let me pretend I was in charge for one glorious minute.
That was long enough for me to point at the plans, nod with great confidence, and contribute absolutely nothing of value.

In my one minute of being in charge, I approved the plans and discovered a pencil sharpener.
That’s it. That was the extent of my leadership.
Apparently, they go through a lot of pencils on a construction site—which actually makes sense when you think about it.
Kind of reminds me of Proverbs 27:17… though I doubt Solomon had Ticonderogas in mind.

While walking the site, I mostly just point at things and ask, “What’s that?” ????
These little pipes? Future walkway lighting.
Turns out, if you ask that question enough times, you start to learn a few things.
So here we go—some of the best “What’s that?” moments from the week…

These blue lines?
That’s where the walls will go.
If you were paying attention last week… this is what those guys were measuring!
(Look at us, learning things. One “What’s that?” at a time.)

All those little wires crisscrossing the roof?
They’re what’s holding the structure in place—after the big shake I missed.
Once these are fully installed (which takes some serious patience), they’ll finally be able to remove the yellow straps.

See under this column?
They added spacers because the concrete was too low right here.
Kind of like when your table at a restaurant wobbles and someone folds up a napkin to stick under one leg—except, you know, with steel and engineering and actual permits.

And then there was this guy, building the stairs to the back of the stage.
There were a few others helping… until they spotted my bright pink hard hat and quietly disappeared out of camera range.
(Smart move.)

And right here, this guy was installing all these little stickie-outie thingies.
This is where Max officially lost me. I nodded, smiled, and eventually confessed I had no idea what he was talking about—but I can’t wait to see the thingie that goes on the thingies so I can finally understand what the thing is.
Until then, I’ll just keep asking, “What’s that?” and hoping I eventually understand what they’re explaining to me.

We’ll end today with this (very poorly taken but very heartfelt) photo of the scripture in front of the stage.
We started this update with Pastor Eric’s photos from the event—but standing here in person, knowing our next generation dedicated this space to the Lord with His Word, was something special.
Keep praying that everyone who steps onto this floor would meet Jesus… and fall in love with Him too.
Thursday, July 31

Well well well. What do we have here?
Pretty sure this steel delivery is for the false front of the stage.
But let’s be honest—there’s a 50% chance I misunderstood.

Nope—looks like they’re installing stickie-outies in front of the stage.
So now I’m pretty sure the steel from the last photo and the stickie-outies are same same.
(That’s what I call anything mysterious that’s sticking out of something.)
(Also: that’s the official term. Please don’t correct me.)
(Ok, you can correct me if you know what the stickie-outies are actually called.)
Stage stickie-outie mystery to be continued in the next episode…
About These Updates
This is a casual, behind-the-scenes look at the Worship Center construction at Trinity. I’m Krista Gordon, Communications Director, armed with a phone camera and curiosity, a pretty consistent track record of confusing water pipes with electrical things, and an AI buddy who helps turn my construction confusion into comedy.
I may not know much about construction, but here’s one thing I do know: as Pastor Eric often reminds us, “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” (Psalm 127:1). Watching this Worship Center rise right outside our offices is a tangible reminder that our true foundation is built on Christ alone.
To Him be all the glory!
