As 2019 comes to a close, the higher-ups at Oxford Dictionaries revealed “climate emergency” as its Word of the Year (two words…go figure). This expression was chosen because it apparently reflects “the ethos, mood or preoccupations of the passing year.” If we, as Christians, chose a word to reflect the ethos of our faith, then I
think “Immanuel” is a wise choice. We will look at this word’s unusual background, its meaning, and the significance Immanuel has in everyday lives.
